Pro-Metrics has joined the SDG Publishers Compact, a United Nations–led initiative that unites publishers committed to promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through responsible, transparent publishing practices.

As an independent academic publisher, Pro-Metrics recognizes the importance of scholarly communication as an infrastructure for sustainable development. Open access, ethical governance, and the long-term preservation of research are central to academic knowledge’s contributions to education, public policy, and social progress.

This announcement marks our participation in the SDG Publishers Compact and will serve as a space to showcase Pro-Metrics’ research outputs that engage with the SDGs.

What is the SDG Publishers Compact?

The SDG Publishers Compact, promoted by the United Nations, is a voluntary framework that encourages publishers to align their editorial policies, dissemination practices, and institutional values with the global sustainable development agenda.

The Compact recognizes publishers as key players in disseminating peer-reviewed knowledge, supporting education, and promoting evidence-based decision-making worldwide.

Our editorial approach to sustainable development

Pro-Metrics’ contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals is rooted in our publishing practices rather than in isolated thematic initiatives.

Our editorial practices support the SDGs by:

  • Open-access publishing, which reduces economic barriers to knowledge.
  • Multilingual dissemination, which expands access beyond Anglophone academic systems.
  • Ethical editorial governance based on independent peer review and international standards.
  • Research that addresses societal challenges, including education, governance, science communication, health, technology, and social inequality.
  • Long-term preservation ensures that research remains accessible as a public good.

This approach reflects a structural, non-performative engagement with sustainable development grounded in editorial practice.

Intellectual property and sustainable development goals (SDGs): Driver of innovation or obstacle to progress? An analysis of recent global literature

Objective. The objective is to analyze the relationship between intellectual property and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from the academic, scientific, and business perspectives indexed in Scopus to assess how intellectual property can boost or limit the achievement of the SDGs.

Design/Methodology/Approach. The first research stage analyzes their performance and impact, while the second stage involves scientific mapping of the publications identified for both. This allows for studying the initial state of the topics from a common perspective to identify the relevant agents and issues in a given period.

Results/Discussion. They show hierarchical and cross-cutting relationships between the clusters and highlight the centrality of the economic and regulatory approach, the relevance of environmental management and governance, and the growing role of digitization and the green economy. The thematic mapping offers a structured view of current knowledge and provides a strategic framework to guide future research and policy in the intersection between intellectual property and sustainable development.

Conclusions. The analysis of the groups or clusters identified in recent literature reveals that this field of study is configured as an interdisciplinary, complex, and dynamic system, where intellectual property acts as an articulating axis of structural debates, practical applications, and emerging challenges.

Originality/Value. The holistic approach to the intersection between the two concepts in various fields shows that while intellectual property can drive innovation, it can also hinder access to key technologies for developing countries. The analysis offers a crucial perspective for rethinking public policy and proposes aligning intellectual property protection with sustainability and social inclusion principles.

Compliance with the 2030 Agenda implies an increase in the capacity of organizations for strategic alignment, playing a connecting role and integrating different perspectives for valuing sectoral contributions. With the aim of contributing to the debate on the priority challenges posed by global references, CHAM – Centro de Humanidades promoted a study guided by the research question How can standardization contribute to the strategic alignment of the performance of information services with Sustainable Development Goals? Based on an interdisciplinary view of Information Science, Research in Evaluation and Evidence-Based Practice, this predominantly qualitative exploratory study is focused on the intersection of international standards on Performance Evaluation of Information Services with Sustainable Development, using two analyses: a) Macro: to examine the strategy and initiatives of ISO alignment with the 2030 Agenda, highlighting the standardization activities promoted by ISO/TC 46; and b) Micro: to explore the incorporation into international standards of performance indicators that allow evidence collection of the contribution of information services. Based on the examination of the 12 indicators defined for the nine goals of SDG 4 and the ISO 11620’s performance indicators, the area of competence development was identified as a strategic alignment point, leading to the development of two indicators – one focused on the development of ICT skills supported by libraries and the other, focused on functional literacy and numeracy of its us-ers, both relevant to highlight libraries’ contributions to the 2030 Agenda.

The article presents a theoretical, methodological, and practical framework for the study of legislative information pertaining to the representation and organization of Brazilian women’s rights in a state of flux. The objective is to present a categorization system that can be used to classify legislative proposals currently being considered by the Chamber of Deputies, which pertain to women’s rights under construction. This will demonstrate legislative progress or setbacks in relation to the 2030 Agenda, in particular Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5) and its targets. The methodology establishes arguments and structures actions that facilitate the design of applied research projects within the field of information science. A bibliographic approach is employed to construct the fundamental theory, while exploratory research and a qualitative methodology are utilized to generate categories and explanatory notes. These are based on the tenets of the knowledge organization and in alignment with the assertions set forth in the 2030 Agenda. The guiding thematic units are based on a quantitative analysis of the subjects found in the legislative data and metadata of 1,041 legislative proposals initiated and underway in the 56th Legislature (2019–2023). Consequently, 12 categories were devised. It can be concluded that the creation of a categorization for Brazilian legislative proposals on the rights of Brazilian women under construction, with a view to the 2030 Agenda, addresses the necessity for legislative information on women’s development. Furthermore, it reveals the necessity for public policies and transparency of information in order to gauge the intentions and attention of the Brazilian Parliament and to meet the goals of the SDGs.
