Call for Applications: Editor-in-Chief Position

Iberoamerican Journal of Science Measurement and Communication

The Iberoamerican Journal of Science Measurement and Communication is currently seeking applications and nominations for the position of Editor-in-Chief. The Editor-in-Chief will begin the role on June 1, 2025, and may renew it for another two years.

About the Journal

The Iberoamerican Journal of Science Measurement and Communication is a peer-reviewed, open-access scientific journal established in 2020. It publishes original research and review articles four times a year. The journal’s primary focus is on promoting knowledge and best practices across several interconnected areas, including the public understanding of science, science communication, and citizen science. Additionally, it emphasizes science-society relations, bibliometrics, and the evaluation of scientific activity. Major indexing services have indexed the journal in their databases, such as Scopus (Q1), EBSCO, ProQuest, and Google Scholar.

Responsibilities of the Editor-in-Chief

The Editor-in-Chief will:

  • Oversee the peer review process for manuscripts assigned to them.
  • Ensure adherence to the journal’s editorial policies and ethical standards.
  • Collaborate with associate editors, reviewers, and authors throughout the editorial process.
  • Lead the coordination and delivery of the journal’s four annual issues.
  • Provide strategic input to support the journal’s development and outreach.
  • Work remotely with flexible scheduling (minimum commitment of approximately 2 hours per week).
  • Operate the editorial workflow using the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform.

The Publisher will provide the Editor-in-Chief with full technical, strategic, and administrative support to facilitate the effective execution of their role.

Eligibility and Qualifications

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a doctoral degree (PhD) in a relevant scientific field.
  • Have a strong academic background in areas related to public understanding of science, science communication, citizen science, science-society relations, bibliometrics, and the evaluation of scientific activity.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to academic publishing and editorial integrity.
  • Prior editorial experience is considered a strong asset, but is not required.
  • Possess excellent command of written and spoken English.

Compensation

The journal has a well-defined compensation system for the Editor-in-Chief. The selected candidate will discuss further details in strict confidence.
